EPC compliance checker

Pick your property's current EPC rating and see instantly whether it meets today's minimum rating standard, and how much runway you have to reach Band C before 1 October 2030 under MEES.

EPCs are valid for 10 years from assessment

Where you stand

Today's minimum (Band E)

The property meets the current MEES minimum of Band E for England and Wales.

Band C by 1 October 2030 - 1,437 days away (about 47 months)

Currently Band D. Reaching Band C typically means insulation, heating or glazing improvements - and assessors, installers and re-assessments all take time. The runway shrinks fast if your EPC also expires before 2030.

MEES applies to England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland have separate proposals under consultation - check the devolved guidance for those nations.

Check and track every property in your portfolio automatically.

Vantage auto-fetches each EPC from the GOV.UK register, flags gaps, and automatically reminds you of renewal, across the whole portfolio.

Did you know: The 2030 EPC standard will cost landlords £9.9 billion.

Frequently asked questions

What is MEES and what changes in 2030?

The Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) set the lowest EPC rating at which a property can be privately let in England and Wales. The current minimum is Band E. From 1 October 2030 the minimum rises to Band C for privately rented homes, unless a valid exemption applies.

What is the penalty for letting below the minimum rating?

Local authorities can issue financial penalties of up to £30,000 per property for letting in breach of MEES, alongside publication penalties. Letting without any valid EPC also carries penalties and prevents serving certain notices.

How long is an EPC valid?

An EPC is valid for 10 years from the date of assessment. You need a valid EPC whenever a property is marketed, let or sold - so an EPC that expires mid-tenancy only needs renewing at re-letting, but an expired EPC plus the 2030 Band C rise can create a compressed upgrade window.

What if my property can't reach Band C?

A register of exemptions exists for properties where all relevant improvements have been made and the rating still falls short, where third-party consent is refused, or where works would devalue the property - each exemption lasts five years and must be evidenced and registered. Details are on GOV.UK's MEES guidance.

Does the Band C requirement apply in Scotland and Northern Ireland?

MEES as such applies to England and Wales. Scotland and Northern Ireland are consulting on their own minimum-standard regimes with different timelines - landlords there should follow the devolved guidance. Vantage applies the right rules per nation when tracking a property.
